Both are cold roses, and they get cold differently. Roses On Ice uses cucumber, juniper and lime with an ozonic accord to make the rose read chilled and gin-like, and it stays transparent all the way down. Hibiscus Mahajad gets its coolness from crystallized mint set against a tart hibiscus tea, then goes somewhere the Kilian does not: vanilla, amber and leather underneath give it weight and a faintly animalic finish. Roses On Ice is the clean one; this is the one with a shadow.

Well, which is unusual for something this fruit-forward. Hibiscus tea is sour rather than sweet and it keeps that character on warm skin instead of turning jammy, while the crystallized mint reads cooler in heat than it does in winter. What changes is the base: vanilla and leather warm up sooner in humidity, so the second half arrives earlier and heavier than the opening leads you to expect. Pomegranate and black currant are the first things to go.
