Not straight away. Despite the name, Christian Provenzano opens it on grapefruit with a carnation-and-mayflower heart, so the first impression is brighter and more floral than the 'bass register' idea suggests. The low, resonant character comes later, once vetiver, oakmoss, cedar and sandalwood settle in, so it earns its name in the drydown rather than the first spray.
The base is wider and stranger than most woody scents. Alongside the expected vetiver, cedar and sandalwood it carries green, slightly bitter facets from galbanum and celery seed, plus nutmeg and pink pepper. That green-woody twist is what keeps it from being a generic dark-wood scent and gives it a savoury edge some people love and others find odd.
Grapefruit opens Basso sharp and citrus-forward, carnation and labdanum bring warmth to the heart, and vetiver, cedar, black pepper, oakmoss and pink pepper layer into a woody, fresh spicy base.
No performance figures recorded, but the concentration suggests an evening scent, well matched to a winter wedding rather than daytime office wear. AUROME offers Basso as a 3–9 ml decant from the original Sospiro bottle, a low-risk week’s try before deciding on a full bottle.
