Fragrantica reviewers compare the two often, one saying you could mistake it in passing. Blue Cypress adds clove and a smoky cypress-vetiver edge, so it reads as a woodier, more aromatic take on that fresh-blue idea.
Blue cypress is an Australian wood oil, dry and slightly smoky. Here it pairs with clove up top and lavender and jasmine underneath, giving the scent a resinous herbal spine rather than a sweet one.
They sit at opposite ends of the line: Blue Cypress is dry, aromatic and cool, while Desert Rosewood is warm, sweet and balsamic. Blue Cypress suits fresh-woody tastes, Desert Rosewood the sweeter-woody ones.
