The name refers to B-612, the tiny home asteroid of the Little Prince in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's novella, evoking a sense of imaginative solitude. The scent itself is a clean aromatic-woody: lavender, cypress and geranium up top, a heart of cashmeran, sandalwood, cedar and patchouli, and a base of musk, oakmoss and tonka bean. It is a 2018 Nishane release, sold plainly as B-612.
It is an Extrait, so the aromatic opening of lavender, geranium and cypress hits harder on some skin than others, and the metallic-rosy geranium can read sharp for the first ten minutes. Give it fifteen minutes and the cashmeran and woods settle it into something calmer and mossy. The first hour on your own skin is the real test, since the concentration makes individual reactions vary.
It travels. The opening is crisp and green, almost mineral, then it drifts into a warm, woody core of cashmeran, cedar and sandalwood before settling into a soft mossy-tonka base. So the fresh fougere character leads early and the woody-mossy side takes over later, which is part of why it rewards a slow, patient wear.
Lavender, cypress and geranium open B-612 fresh spicy and herbal, cashmeran, sandalwood, cedar and patchouli thicken the heart, and musk with oakmoss settle a powdery, woody base.
Perfumer Chris Maurice built this extrait de parfum for staying power, and it shows through a full office day into evening, favouring cooler air. AUROME sells B-612 as a 3–9 ml decant from the original Nishane bottle, worth a week’s wear before buying in full.
