One is a jasmine fragrance and the other is a fragrance with jasmine in it. Gorgeous Jasmine frames its flower with mandarin, black pepper, magnolia and rose over sandalwood and patchouli, so the jasmine is one voice among several. A La Nuit uses three jasmines and almost nothing else, with clove and green notes for a minute at the start and benzoin, honey and musk underneath. The Gucci is the wearable one; this is jasmine with no interpreter.

It amplifies exactly the part people find difficult. Jasmine's indolic side, the faintly animalic, almost overripe quality that makes real jasmine unsettling, expands on warm damp skin rather than fading, so this reads heavier and more carnal in Dhaka than in a cool European evening. The clove flash at the opening is gone in seconds here. Honey in the base compounds it, and one spray is not a suggestion with this fragrance in this climate.
