Not in practice. It is built and marketed as unisex, and the sweetness up top, apple, vanilla and a touch of coumarin, is boxed in by lavender, dry cardamom, geranium and a woody base of sandalwood and guaiac. That structure keeps it reading as a polished, slightly sweet aromatic rather than a dessert, which is why it works as an easy masculine-leaning option as much as a feminine one. If you want sweet but not juvenile, it lands there.

They are related, but not the same fragrance. Layton Exclusif keeps the apple-and-bergamot brightness, then goes somewhere else: a watery, almond-tinged opening, civet and gardenia through the heart, and a base of Laotian oud, coffee, leather and oakmoss. Layton finishes on vanilla, sandalwood and guaiac wood and stays polished the whole way through. Exclusif is the darker and more animalic reading of the idea, not a concentrated version of this one.

It is a cool-weather scent at heart, and the base is why. Ambermax, vanilla, coumarin and guaiac wood all gain weight as skin warms, so the polished sweet finish that reads elegant in winter can turn dense by a hot afternoon. The apple, lavender and mandarin up top burn off quickly here, which leaves you less of the fresh phase to enjoy. It is at its best in Dhaka after dark or in air conditioning, applied with a lighter hand than you would use in December.

There are reports that it has. A wearer comparing old and new bottles across the house writes on Basenotes that Layton, Herod, Oajan and Carlisle were all changed together, with a higher alcohol concentration and a lighter juice colour in current stock. Parfums de Marly has not published anything about it, so this is owner testimony rather than a documented change. The apple, lavender and vanilla structure described above is what current bottles still deliver.
