Both sit in the cool green aromatic family, but they pull in different directions. Green Irish Tweed is the softer, sweeter take, with a creamy violet-and-ambergris freshness. Platinum Egoiste is drier and sharper, leaning on rosemary, geranium and a grey vetiver-oakmoss base. If you want the crisper, more austere version of that green, barbershop-clean idea, this is the one; if you want it smoother and more rounded, that is where the Creed goes.

Well, and the reason is that there is no sweetness in it to lose control of. Lavender, rosemary and petitgrain read sharper on warm skin, and the galbanum in the heart keeps a bitter green edge that humidity does not soften. What heat changes is the base: oakmoss and vetiver turn drier and dustier through the afternoon rather than richer. It is a genuine hot-weather aromatic, though the first half hour is more austere here than in cool air, so give it a few minutes on skin before judging it.

The base is the part least likely to, and oakmoss is why. In a dry green fougere like this one oakmoss is load-bearing rather than a background note, sitting directly under the vetiver and cedar and giving the whole thing its grey, mossy floor. IFRA's standard for oakmoss extracts has required a cleaned-up, low-atranol material in all new fragrance formulas since February 2021, so what can go in that position now is not the material available in 1993. Chanel has published nothing about a reformulation, and the lavender, rosemary and galbanum up top are unaffected either way.
