A green aromatic fougere: lavender, oakmoss, rosemary, mint and geranium over patchouli and amber. It is clean, herbal and barbershop-classic rather than sweet or modern.
Basenotes regulars pair the two Tom Ford fougeres often, seeing Beau de Jour as the sharper, more assertive one and Fougere d'Argent as the softer, more refined. They cover the same idea at different volumes.
Very much so. The lavender-oakmoss-coumarin spine is deliberately old-school, which is why the community splits on it: some read it as a polished classic, others as a plain shaving-soap scent.
Lavender opens Beau De Jour before a green, herbaceous heart of oakmoss, rosemary, mint, geranium and basil, and patchouli with amber close things down warmly, fresh spicy and aromatic throughout.
Expect this eau de parfum (EDP) to carry from an office meeting through to an evening date in cooler months. AUROME offers it as a 3–9 ml decant from the original Tom Ford bottle, so he can try the lavender-amber base for a week before choosing.
