They are the house's two leathers and they are built differently. Wild Leather is simple and floral-led: Sicilian bergamot into patchouli, Bulgarian rose and violet over leather, oakmoss and guaiac wood. Black Gold is busier and spicier. Lavender, cinnamon and nutmeg open it with real heat, oud sits in from the very start rather than arriving late, and there is a sea-note thread through the heart that Wild Leather has nothing like, and wild Leather is the classic one; Black Gold is the modern and more crowded one.
It clarifies the spice and blurs everything else. Cinnamon and nutmeg sharpen on warm skin and the lavender lifts fast, so the opening runs hotter and more aggressive here than in cool air. The sea note in the heart, which reads as a cool thread in winter, more or less disappears in humidity. Leather, oud and vetiver underneath are dry and they hold, and what you end up with in a Dhaka summer is a spicier, more linear version of the fragrance.
Lavender, cinnamon, nutmeg, citrus and a hint of oud open Black Gold fresh spicy and warm spicy, violet, jasmine, patchouli, rose and sea notes follow, and leather, musk, amber and vetiver close a smoky base.
Expect this eau de parfum (EDP) to last through a winter wedding or a long evening at the office without a top-up. AUROME sells it as a 2–15 ml decant from the original Mancera bottle, so he can wear the leather-oud combination for a week first.
