One leads with the oud and one hides it. Aoud Line puts agarwood in the very first minutes alongside Turkish rose and vanilla, with teak, patchouli and sandalwood underneath, so the wood is the subject throughout. Black Gold has oud in its opening too but buries it under lavender, cinnamon and nutmeg, and adds a sea note and florals through the heart before the leather arrives. Aoud Line is the direct one; Black Gold is the busier, more modern reading.

It arrives faster but does not swell. Real agarwood is a dry, resinous material and warm skin brings its animalic, slightly medicinal opening forward sooner rather than making it heavier. The vanilla and raspberry in the formula are what gain, softening the wood by the second hour more than they would in cool air. Teak and patchouli hold their shape throughout, and it is a demanding fragrance in this climate, but the heat changes its timing more than its weight.
