The 2020 Parfum keeps the dark truffle-plum-and-orchid DNA but reworks it around rum and a rich patchouli base, so it reads deeper, smoother and more linear than the 2006 Eau de Parfum rather than being simply a stronger pour. The EDP is more restless; the Parfum makes its mind up and stays there. It shares dark, gourmand-tinged territory with Tobacco Vanille .
It divides people. The black truffle gives an earthy, almost savoury edge that some find seductive and others find odd on first spray. The rum and plum can pull the whole thing gourmand on warm skin while staying dark and earthy on cooler skin, and both readings are normal.
Save it for cold nights. The dense truffle, rum and patchouli turn overwhelming in heat and humidity, but on a winter evening or at a formal dinner they bloom into exactly the statement the scent is built for.
Plum opens Black Orchid Parfum dark and fruity before rum and ylang ylang widen the heart, warm spicy and floral at once, with patchouli anchoring an earthy, sweet base.
No longevity or sillage figures recorded, but the concentration points firmly toward evening plans, a wedding, or a date in cooler months. AUROME offers this unisex Tom Ford scent as a 3–9 ml decant from the original bottle, worth a week’s try before choosing a full bottle.
