The two share a house DNA but pull in opposite directions. The original stays brisk and composed, a smart-casual woody. Intense turns the dial toward a darker, boozier core: a rum note sits in the heart, and an incense, leather and benzoin base gives it the smoky weight the original never reaches for. If the standard Bentley reads as daytime and polished, Intense is its cold-weather, after-dark counterpart.
Yes. Wearers on Fragrantica and Basenotes report a reformulation around 2018, and opinion is split: some find the current batch thinner through the incense and leather base, while others say the boozy rum and spice opening is largely unchanged. If you tried an early bottle years ago, a current decant is worth sampling first so you can judge the difference before committing to a full purchase.
It does, though it takes a little time. The pepper and bergamot open dry and spicy, and the rum only steps forward once the heart settles, giving a warm, slightly sweet lift against the leather and incense. Basenotes users often compare that smoky, resinous base to Amouage Opus VI, calling this a lighter, more affordable route to a similar idea.
