They share the Man Wood name but smell quite different. Wood Neroli centres on a bright bergamot-and-neroli opening, an orange blossom, Virginia cedar and cypriol heart, and a base of white musk, ambergris, amber and leather, which gives it a floral-citrus face with a soft leathery depth. Wood Essence, by contrast, is a drier citrus-and-cypress woody scent. Perfumer Alberto Morillas composed both, with Wood Neroli arriving in 2019.

They share a fresh, woody-citrus spirit, and some wearers reach for Wood Neroli as a brighter, more neroli-forward pick in that lane. It is not a copy: Terre d'Hermes is drier and more mineral, while Wood Neroli is softer and more floral around the citrus. If you like one, the other is worth trying, but expect a different mood rather than a match.

On some skin the white musk, amber and leather base stays quiet and the neroli leads for much of the wear, which is why it reads as a clean, close-to-skin scent rather than a bold woody one. That soft character suits spring and summer office days. If you want the woods to register more, a slightly heavier application helps the base show.
