What does Dolce & Gabbana The One for Men smell like?

It is a warm spicy-oriental. Grapefruit, coriander and basil open it fresh, a heart of ginger, cardamom and orange blossom adds spice, and a base of amber, tobacco and cedar gives it a rich, slightly sweet tobacco warmth. So it reads as a smooth, grown-up spicy scent rather than a loud or fresh one. It is the 2008 original by Olivier Polge.

Has The One for Men been reformulated?

It appears so. Dolce & Gabbana's current listing for the same eau de toilette describes a lavender-and-sandalwood profile with no tobacco note, which points to a reformulation over the years. If the classic tobacco warmth is what you want, look for older stock and compare the batch you receive.

Grapefruit and coriander open this eau de toilette (EDT) with a crisp, aromatic snap, before ginger and cardamom bring warmth to the heart alongside orange blossom. It settles into a tobacco and amber dry-down over cedar, the fresh spicy and citrus accords giving way to something warmer and more resinous.

It suits a winter evening out or a date night once the Dhaka air cools, worn for him without feeling heavy-handed. Longevity and sillage numbers were not supplied for this one, so expect performance to vary a little from skin to skin.
