Oud Wood is the gentler introduction to the note: rosewood, cardamom and Sichuan pepper over a soft oud with sandalwood, tonka and vanilla underneath, warm and rounded. Oud for Greatness is sharper and more assertive. Saffron and nutmeg give it a leathery, almost medicinal opening, lavender cuts across it in a way the Tom Ford never does, and the patchouli-and-musk base stays dry with no vanilla to soften it. Oud Wood is the safer choice; this is the one that announces itself.

It divides people in cool air and heat pushes it further either way. Warm skin lifts lavender fast and can make its soapy side more obvious against the saffron, which is the part wearers either love or cannot get past. The saffron itself turns more medicinal in humidity before it settles. Oud and patchouli underneath stay dry and hold their shape, so the second half is comfortable here even when the opening is not.
