What does Cuoium smell like?

Alessandro Gualtieri built a dark, animalic leather. It opens raw and almost feral on animal and woody notes with a whisper of violet, then settles into a rich base of leather, incense, cade and cedar. The idea is a worn old boot dug up and brought back to life.

Is the harsh opening worth pushing through?

Many reviewers say yes. The confrontational first half hour smooths into a deep, smoky leather that is the real reward. Go easy on the sprays, since it is potent and animalic, and give it time to settle rather than judging it from the first minute.

Black pepper, mandarin and woody notes open Cuoium with a sharp, spiced start before a single violet note softens the heart of this Orto Parisi release.

Leather, incense, cade oil, cedar and labdanum build a dense, smoky, animalic base that dominates the whole composition. Longevity and sillage are both rated a full 5 out of 5, so expect this unisex parfum to last long and project strongly through the night.

It suits a party or a late evening in Dhaka’s cooler months rather than an office setting, given how assertive the leather base is. Alessandro Gualtieri’s 2021 composition comes as a 3–9 ml decant filled from the original bottle.
