How does it compare with Amouage Rose Incense?

Both use olibanum and go in opposite directions with it. Rose Incense is austere: olibanum, elemi and an ink accord into rose water and suede over myrrh and sandalwood, deliberately dry and a little severe. Guidance softens the frankincense with pear and roasted hazelnut up top, then runs osmanthus, rose and saffron through the heart over vanilla, ambergris and labdanum. Rose Incense is the ceremonial one; Guidance is the one you can wear to dinner.

Does the pear-and-hazelnut opening survive Dhaka heat?

Partly, and the hazelnut is the survivor. Pear thins within minutes in high heat as most fruit notes do, but roasted hazelnut is a fuller, lactonic note and it holds on warm skin, keeping the creamy quality that makes this unusual. Olibanum stays dry throughout. What gains most is the vanilla-and-labdanum base, which warms up sooner in humidity and makes the second half richer than the opening implies.

Pear and hazelnut open Guidance with a fruity, nutty warmth, before osmanthus, rose, saffron, and jasmine sambac build a rich floral heart. The base of sandalwood, vanilla, ambergris, and labdanum settles into a warm spicy, powdery amber.

It is an evening piece, well suited to a winter wedding season occasion when a fuller, more floral amber feels appropriate. There is no longevity or sillage figure on record, but expect the sandalwood and amber base to be what lasts longest on the skin.

AUROME bottles this as a 3–9 ml decant from the original Amouage flacon, so a handful of wears will tell you if it belongs in your collection. Unisex, it suits anyone who likes fruity, floral ambers.
