It is a darker reading of the same root. The original Vetiver runs bergamot, coriander and lemon into vetiver and cedar, finishing on tobacco, walnut and pepper, so it stays bright, dry and distinctly of its era. The 2024 Parfum opens on juniper and orange for a gin-like lift, keeps the vetiver green and earthy, then adds smoke, licorice and tonka bean underneath. That base is the real change: it makes this warmer and more dressed up where the original is austere.

The gin-like opening goes fast and the smoke arrives early. Juniper and bergamot are volatile, and high heat compresses them, so the crisp botanical lift that defines the first impression is brief here. Vetiver keeps its earthy character on warm skin, but the licorice and tonka in the base sweeten as the wear goes on, which makes it feel heavier than it does in winter. Wear it after dark and expect a different fragrance than the one you smelled on paper.
