What does Kilian Back to Black Aphrodisiac smell like?

It is a warm honey-and-tobacco gourmand. Chamomile, raspberry, bergamot and spices open it, a heart of honey, cedar, frankincense, oakmoss, patchouli and saffron gives it depth, and a base of bitter almond, bourbon vanilla, labdanum and tobacco makes it sweet, ambery and slightly boozy. It launched in 2009 as part of Kilian's Black Masterpieces, and it is distinct from the later Back to Black, Angels' Share, a cognac-focused scent. Perfumer Calice Becker composed it.

How does Back to Black compare to Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille?

They overlap in the warm tobacco-and-vanilla space, but Back to Black is darker and more animalic. Tobacco Vanille is spicier and cosier, a smooth pipe-tobacco comfort scent, while Back to Black pours in raw honey and a leathery labdanum edge that makes it moodier and more polarising. If you find Tobacco Vanille a little safe, this is the wilder sibling.

Chamomile, raspberry, bergamot, cardamom and coriander open Back To Black fruity and honeyed, honey, cedar and olibanum carry the heart, and almond, vanilla, labdanum, tobacco and cherry close a smoky amber base.

Expect this eau de parfum (EDP) to last through a full evening and be felt up close, suiting a winter wedding or a party. AUROME sells it as a 3–9 ml decant from the original Kilian bottle, worth a week’s wear before committing to a full bottle.
