EDP vs EDT vs Parfum: which concentration survives Bangladesh’s heat?

EDP vs EDT comes down to fragrance oil: an eau de toilette (EDT) typically holds roughly 5–15 % oil, an eau de parfum (EDP) roughly 15–20 % and a parfum (extrait) roughly 20–30 %, so the stronger the concentration, the richer the scent tends to be and the longer it tends to stay. In Bangladesh the premium is modest in decants: a 5 ml of Dior Sauvage costs ৳1,242 as an EDT, ৳1,384 as an EDP and ৳1,597 as a Parfum.

Those percentages are typical ranges, not rules, and they differ from house to house. This guide explains what each term on the label means, compares the same fragrance in different concentrations using real AUROME decant prices, and suggests which strength suits an office day, an evening out or a humid Bangladeshi afternoon. Prices were checked in October 2026.

EDP vs EDT vs Parfum: the concentrations explained

Every perfume is a blend of fragrance oil and alcohol, with a little water. The strength of a perfume is the share of fragrance oil in that blend. Perfume houses choose it themselves, so the ranges below are typical figures, and one house’s EDP can feel stronger or weaker than another’s.

Typical fragrance oil share by strength (ranges vary by house)
Concentration Also called Typical oil share What it tends to feel like
Eau de toilette EDT roughly 5–15 % Lighter and brighter, with a fresher opening that fades sooner
Eau de parfum EDP roughly 15–20 % Fuller and more rounded, a middle ground between EDT and parfum
Parfum Extrait, extrait de parfum, pure perfume roughly 20–30 % The densest and most intimate; often sits closer to the skin

Eau de cologne sits below all three at roughly 2–5 %. You can browse every eau de toilette, eau de parfum and parfum on AUROME by concentration.

A higher concentration of fragrance oil does not simply mean “louder”. More oil gives the scent more material to evaporate slowly, which often helps longevity, but the notes matter as much as the label. A heavy amber or vanilla EDT can outlast a citrus EDP, and a parfum can sit close to the skin with less sillage than a bright EDP. Treat the label as a guide to character, not a guarantee of performance.

Eau de toilette vs parfum, and eau de parfum vs parfum

Perfume concentration is a ladder rather than a switch, and these different types of perfume overlap at the edges. Parfum vs eau de toilette is the widest gap: the parfum carries a clearly higher oil concentration, so it tends to feel denser and sit closer to the skin, while the EDT is lighter and more airy. An EDT may need a re-spray after a long working day, especially in heat. Eau de parfum vs parfum is a smaller step. Both are rich, and the difference often shows in the dry-down rather than in the first spray.

So EDT vs EDP vs parfum is less about which is best and more about which fits the day. Fragrance concentrations also interact with the composition itself: a citrus fragrance in a high oil concentration is still a fresh fragrance, and a sweet gourmand in an EDT is still sweet. Choosing the right fragrance means judging the notes first and the strength second.

How to read the label

The three words to look for are on the front of the box or bottle, usually under the name: “Eau de Toilette” or EDT, “Eau de Parfum” or EDP, “Parfum” or “Extrait de Parfum”. Some practical points:

  • Names such as “Intense”, “Elixir” or “Le Parfum” are branding, not a concentration. They often sit between two strengths, so check the line that actually says EDT, EDP or Parfum.
  • A flanker with “Parfum” in its name is not always labelled as a parfum. Our catalogue lists Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Le Parfum under eau de parfum, while Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male is an eau de toilette. Le Male Le Parfum is sold out at the moment.
  • Different concentrations are often different scents, not only different strengths. A house may change notes between the EDT and the EDP, so smell or test both.
  • Each AUROME product page shows the concentration as an attribute, so you can confirm it before choosing a decant size.

Same fragrance, three concentrations: Dior Sauvage

Dior Sauvage is the clearest example in the catalogue because all three concentrations are in stock: Dior Sauvage Eau de Toilette, Dior Sauvage Eau de Parfum and Dior Sauvage Parfum. Here is what each costs as a decant:

Dior Sauvage decant prices by concentration (checked October 2026; a dash means the size is not listed)
Size Eau de Toilette Eau de Parfum Parfum
2 ml ৳571 ৳637 ৳735
3 ml ৳768 ৳853 ৳981
5 ml ৳1,242 ৳1,384 ৳1,597
9 ml ৳2,179 ৳2,434 ৳2,818
15 ml — ৳3,748 ৳4,342

At 5 ml the EDP costs ৳142 more than the EDT (about 11 % more) and the Parfum ৳355 more (about 29 % more). That is what the extra strength costs here: not double, but a visible step. The three also differ in character, according to our catalogue notes:

  • EDT: Calabrian bergamot and pepper over an ambroxan, cedar and labdanum base. Our product page calls it the fresher, brighter one, tagged for fall and spring.
  • EDP: bergamot, Sichuan pepper, lavender, star anise and nutmeg over ambroxan and vanilla. It is described as sweeter and warmer than the EDT, tagged for fall and winter.
  • Parfum: bergamot, mandarin and elemi over sandalwood, olibanum, tonka bean and vanilla, also tagged for fall and winter.

If you only want to find out which one suits you, a 2 ml decant of each costs ৳1,943 in total, which is less than a single 9 ml of the Parfum (৳2,818). Use the guide to choosing a fragrance size to decide how much to buy afterwards.

What a higher concentration costs: five more real pairs

Sauvage is one pattern; other pairs in the catalogue show how much the price gap varies. All figures are decant prices checked in October 2026.

Lower and higher strength of the same fragrance, 2 ml and 5 ml decants
Fragrance Lower strength Higher strength Gap at 5 ml
Paco Rabanne 1 Million vs 1 Million Parfum EDT: ৳269 / ৳585 Parfum: ৳343 / ৳745 +27 %
Armani Acqua Di Gio Eau De Parfum vs Acqua Di Gio Parfum EDP: ৳411 / ৳894 Parfum: ৳466 / ৳1,014 +13 %
Dolce & Gabbana The One Eau De Parfum vs The One Parfum EDP: ৳326 / ৳709 Parfum: ৳506 / ৳1,100 +55 %
Armaf Club de Nuit Intense Man Eau de Parfum vs Club de Nuit Intense Man Parfum EDP: ৳196 / ৳425 Parfum: ৳235 / 5 ml sold out +20 % at 2 ml
Paco Rabanne Invictus vs Invictus Parfum EDT: ৳293 / ৳638 Parfum: ৳261 / ৳567 −11 %

The pattern is that there is no pattern. The step up costs 13 % in one pair and 55 % in another, and in the Invictus pair the Parfum is actually cheaper than the EDT. So a higher oil share does not automatically cost more, and a cheaper bottle is not automatically weaker. The Club de Nuit Intense Man Parfum is available in 2 ml and 3 ml (৳329) at the time of writing, with the larger sizes sold out. Armaf’s own range is on the Armaf brand page, and Dior’s on the Dior brand page.

One more same-line pair is currently sold out: Chanel Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum and Chanel Bleu de Chanel Parfum. They are shown on the site so you can find them again, but we are not quoting prices for them while they cannot be bought.

Which concentration survives Bangladesh’s heat?

Heat and humidity change how a perfume behaves. Warm skin tends to push a scent out faster and make it feel stronger at first, while damp air can make rich, sweet notes feel heavy. For that reason, a lighter EDT often feels more comfortable in the hot, humid months, and an EDP or Parfum often feels better in the drier, cooler months from about November to February. That is a tendency, not a rule: a fresh EDP can be perfectly wearable in summer if you use fewer sprays.

Strength and typical use in Bangladesh’s climate
Concentration Hot, humid months Cooler months Typical use
EDT Often the most comfortable; fresh and easy to wear Fine for daytime, may need a re-spray Office, college, daytime errands, hot commutes
EDP Works with light hands; pick fresher compositions Often the sweet spot All-round wear, office and evening
Parfum Use one or two sprays only; can feel heavy Tends to suit best Evenings, dinners, weddings, formal events

The catalogue tags support this: the Sauvage EDT is tagged for fall and spring, while its EDP and Parfum are tagged for fall and winter. You can see the season and occasion tags on every product page.

Is a decant a good way to compare strengths?

Yes, because it lets you wear each version on your own skin in your own weather before paying for a full bottle. A decant is a small portion of the fragrance in its own spray atomiser; if the term is new to you, read what is a perfume decant. For picks by budget, our best perfume for men in Bangladesh guide lists real prices, and the perfume price in Bangladesh page lets you compare every size.

If you are unsure which strength to try, the Fragrance Advisor recommends in-stock perfumes from your preferences, and “Match your mood” on the Find your scent page ranks them from a short quiz.

What affects how long a perfume lasts, besides concentration

Longevity depends on more than the label. Skin type matters: drier skin tends to lose fragrance faster, while moisturised skin often holds it longer. Where and how you spray matters too, so apply to clean skin at the pulse points and avoid rubbing your wrists together, which can flatten the top notes. The notes themselves count for a lot: woods, amber, vanilla and musk in the base tend to linger, while citrus and light aromatic tops tend to fade quickly. Heat speeds evaporation, and after a while you may stop noticing your own scent, so ask someone you trust before adding more sprays.

How to choose the right fragrance and strength

Start with when you will wear it. Daytime and office wear points to an EDT or a fresh EDP; evenings and formal events point to an EDP or Parfum. Then think about the season, and finally test a 2 ml decant before committing. The full fragrance experience, from the opening through the heart to the dry-down, only shows over several hours on your skin, not from the first spray. Wearing the same scent in two strengths on two different days is the fairest way to see what the extra oil actually adds for you.

What is the difference between EDP and EDT?

EDP contains more fragrance oil than EDT, typically roughly 15–20 % against roughly 5–15 %. In practice an EDP tends to smell fuller and last longer, while an EDT tends to smell brighter and fade sooner. The two can also use different notes, as Sauvage shows: the EDT is fresher, the EDP warmer and more vanilla-tinged.

Which lasts longer in humidity?

A higher oil share, so Parfum then EDP then EDT, tends to last longer, but humidity and heat shorten any perfume, so test the fragrance on your own skin rather than trusting the label alone. We do not promise a number of hours, because skin, weather and the number of sprays all change the result.

Is parfum worth the price?

It can be, if you like a dense, close-to-skin scent and wear it in cooler weather or for evenings. In our catalogue the step up from EDP to Parfum is about 13 % to 55 % more per decant in the pairs above, so test a 2 ml first. For everyday wear in humid months, an EDT or EDP is often the better value.

Which concentration is best for office and which for evening?

For an office or a hot commute, choose an EDT or a fresh EDP and keep to one or two sprays. For an evening, dinner or wedding, an EDP or a Parfum gives more depth. If you only buy one, an EDP is the most flexible. Browse perfumes for him, perfumes for her or unisex perfumes.

Is EDP always more expensive than EDT?

No. In most of our pairs the higher concentration costs more, but Paco Rabanne Invictus Parfum is cheaper than the Invictus EDT. Compare the decant prices on each product page instead of assuming.

Which is stronger, EDP or Parfum?

Parfum is the stronger of the two, with roughly 20–30 % oil against roughly 15–20 % for an EDP. Stronger does not always mean projecting further: many parfums sit closer to the skin than a bright EDP.
