How does the 2016 Eau de Parfum compare to the original Kenzo pour Homme?

It is a deliberate reworking rather than a copy. Built for the line's 25th anniversary, the Eau de Parfum keeps the woody-marine idea of the 1991 original but pushes it more aromatic and oceanic, with mint and cardamom up top. Longtime fans are split: some enjoy the fresher take, while others miss the meditative depth of the classic.

Is it a sweet aquatic or a clean one?

Clean and mineral. The sea notes and sage sit over sandalwood, vetiver and cedar, so the drydown stays dry and woody rather than sweet, with only a whisper of vanilla at the end. That restraint is what makes it easy to wear in heat without it turning cloying.
