They split on where the sweetness comes from. Musamam White Intense opens on spices, bergamot and orange and builds a coconut-and-ylang heart over sandalwood, musk and benzoin, so it reads creamy and tropical. Black Intense starts as a proper aromatic fougere, lavender and sage lifted by bergamot with nutmeg behind them, then lands on cocoa, tonka bean and maple. White is the coconut one; Black is the barbershop opening with a dessert ending.

It thickens, and the herbal opening is what buys you time. Lavender, sage and bergamot keep the first stretch crisp even on warm skin, which is longer than most gourmands manage here. Once cocoa, maple and tonka take over they gain weight in humidity the way all sweet bases do, and the patchouli underneath does not dry things out enough to compensate. Good for an air-conditioned evening, difficult at midday.
