Reserve Privee softens the line considerably: bergamot into iris and chestnut over amber, whiskey and cedarwood, which makes it warmer, boozier and more comfortable. The Eau de Parfum keeps the iris but frames it with black pepper and lavender up top and cloves and cinnamon through the heart, over a black vanilla husk and patchouli base. Reserve Privee is the easy one; this is the one with the spice still attached.

Less well than the spice suggests it might. Cloves and cinnamon both intensify on warm skin, and the black vanilla husk, tolu balsam and benzoin underneath are resinous materials that thicken rather than lift, so the whole thing gains weight through a hot afternoon. Black pepper and lavender give you a crisp first fifteen minutes and then step aside. Iris is the one note that stays cool throughout, and autumn evenings and air conditioning are where this makes sense.
