It shares an aromatic, iris-tinted skeleton with plenty of cheaper fragrances, so the opening feels familiar. Where it separates itself is the base: the extrait piles on olibanum, myrrh and opoponax for a resinous incense depth that budget iris-lavender scents rarely reach. Whether that depth justifies the Amouage price is a personal call, which is exactly why a small decant is the smart way to judge it before committing to a bottle.

They share a spine and little else. Reflection Man is the lighter of the two: rosemary and petitgrain into a jasmine, neroli and orris heart over a clean sandalwood and vetiver base. Reflection 45 is an extrait, and it adds lavender, cardamom, benzoin, tonka and vanilla above a base of olibanum, myrrh and opoponax, which gives it a resinous, incense-heavy depth the original never goes near. If you know Reflection Man, expect the same floral structure wrapped in something much darker.

It splits the fragrance in two. The lavender, juniper and cardamom up top go quickly in high heat, so the herbal opening that gives it shape is brief here. Underneath, iris and angelica stay cool and dry even in humidity, while the benzoin, tonka and vanilla in the heart warm and sweeten, tipping the balance further toward the resinous side than the aromatic one. It is an evening fragrance in this climate, and an extrait needs less of itself than an EDP would.
