To find your signature scent, start from the accords you already enjoy, then wear 2 ml or 3 ml decants of three or four candidates for a few days each before you buy anything bigger. At AUROME that trial starts at ৳150 for a 2 ml Lattafa Khamrah, and 2 ml decants of Khamrah, Rasasi Hawas Ice and Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue For Her come to ৳606 together.
A signature scent is not a prize you win with one lucky spray in a shop. It is the fragrance you keep reaching for after you have lived in it. The method below has five steps: work out what you already like, match it to an accord family, test with small decants, judge the dry-down on your own skin, then fit it to your budget and occasions.
Step 1: What do you already like?
Begin with things you can name rather than perfume words. A fragrance you have worn and liked, a fragrance you could not stand, the smell of a lemon, a rose garden, cedar shavings or vanilla in a kitchen. Write down three things you enjoy and one or two you avoid. That short list is more useful than any quiz answer, because it tells you which notes to look for and which to skip.
If you already own a fragrance you wear often, look up its notes and main accords on its product page and keep them beside your list. Our guide to fragrance notes explains top notes, heart notes and base notes, which makes those product-page lists much easier to read.
Step 2: Which accord family is closest to your taste?
An accord is the overall impression a group of notes makes, and every AUROME product page lists its main accords in rank order. Most of what you will meet falls into a few fragrance families, and one of them probably matches your list:
- Fresh and citrus: bright, clean, light. Lemon, bergamot, fruit and a woody or aromatic backbone.
- Warm and sweet: vanilla, amber, spice and resin. Rich, cosy, better in cooler evenings.
- Fresh spicy and woody: pepper, lavender and cedar-type woods, aromatic rather than sugary.
- Floral and powdery: white floral, rose, iris and soft musk, from airy to velvety.
Some fragrances cross families. Libre Eau de Parfum is a white floral with citrus, lavender and vanilla, so it can please someone who thought they only liked fresh scents. That is why you test rather than decide from a label.
Which fragrances are good starting points for each taste?
These are in-stock decants chosen as clear examples of each family, not rankings. Where a family has two rows, the first is the lower-priced way in. Accords are listed in the order shown on each product page.
| If you like | Start with | Concentration | Main accords | 2 ml | 5 ml |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fresh and citrus | Rasasi Hawas Ice decant | Eau de parfum | Fruity, citrus, sweet, fresh | ৳179 | ৳390 |
| Fresh and citrus | Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue For Her decant | Eau de toilette | Citrus, woody, fresh, fruity | ৳277 | ৳603 |
| Warm and sweet | Lattafa Khamrah decant | Eau de parfum | Sweet, warm spicy, vanilla, amber | ৳150 | ৳315 |
| Fresh spicy and woody | Yves Saint Laurent Y decant | Eau de parfum | Aromatic, fresh spicy, woody, fruity | ৳489 | ৳1,064 |
| Fresh spicy and woody | Dior Sauvage Eau de Parfum decant | Eau de parfum | Fresh spicy, citrus, amber, lavender | ৳637 | ৳1,384 |
| Floral and powdery | Yves Saint Laurent Libre Eau de Parfum decant | Eau de parfum | White floral, citrus, lavender, vanilla | ৳595 | ৳1,293 |
| Floral and powdery | Dior Miss Dior Eau de Parfum decant | Eau de parfum | Powdery, vanilla, rose, floral | ৳637 | ৳1,384 |
Do not treat the gender label as a rule. Khamrah is listed as unisex, and a fragrance on one shelf may suit you better than one on the other, so browse both the men’s perfume and women’s perfume pages. To see more from the houses above, open the Lattafa, Rasasi and Dior pages, and use the perfume price guide to compare every fragrance and size.
How can the Fragrance Advisor and Match your mood help?
Both tools are free and only suggest fragrances that are in stock now, but they work differently. The Fragrance Advisor is a chat. Describe a fragrance you already wear, the notes you like, your budget or the weather in your own words, and it recommends from the in-stock catalogue using the notes, accords and decant prices on our product pages. The advice is AI-assisted rather than written by a person, so check the notes on the product page before you order.
Match your mood is a two-minute perfume quiz. You pick accords you love, the occasion and the season, and it scores each in-stock fragrance in your browser: accords count for half of the score, occasions a quarter and seasons a quarter. The percentage shows how closely a fragrance fits your answers, not how good it is. Use the quiz for a fixed shortlist and the Fragrance Advisor when you have a specific budget or a favourite to compare against, then carry the shortlist into Step 3.
Step 3: How do you test a scent with decants?
Choose three or four candidates from different families rather than four versions of the same idea, and buy each as a 2 ml or 3 ml decant. A 2 ml decant is about 30 sprays on the shop’s estimate of 15 sprays per millilitre, which at two sprays a day covers about two weeks. That is far more information than a single spray on a card, for a fraction of the price of a bottle.
Wear one fragrance per day, on clean skin, and spray the same area each time, such as the inner forearm or chest. Give each candidate at least two or three separate days, once in the morning and once in the evening heat, because Bangladesh humidity and temperature change how a perfume behaves from one day to the next. The decant size guide compares 1.5 ml to 30 ml, and what a perfume decant is explains how they are filled. The travel sizes page lists the small formats together.
Step 4: How do you judge the dry-down on your skin?
The dry-down is what is left once the first burst has faded, and it is the part you will actually live with. Check in at about fifteen minutes, one hour and four hours, then again at the end of the day, and write one line each time. The usual order is top notes, then heart notes, then base notes, and the product page lists all three.
Khamrah shows the pattern clearly: bergamot, cinnamon and clary sage at the start, praline and tuberose in the heart, and vanilla, oud, myrrh, tonka bean and amber underneath. Sauvage Eau de Parfum opens on bergamot and settles toward ambroxan and vanilla. Ask yourself whether you still like the base, whether it feels like you, and whether you would be happy to smell it all evening. Skin and body chemistry can nudge a fragrance sweeter, sharper or softer, so a note list tells you what to expect, not what you will get. If the base disappoints, the fragrance is not your signature scent, whatever the opening promised.
Step 5: How do you fit a budget and an occasion?
Decide your price per millilitre before you fall for something. Khamrah costs ৳150 for 2 ml and ৳315 for 5 ml, while Sauvage Eau de Parfum costs ৳637 for 2 ml and ৳1,384 for 5 ml, so the same trial budget buys a very different number of fragrances. Once you know a scent suits you, the larger decants are cheaper per millilitre; the size guide has the arithmetic.
Then ask where you will wear it. A fresh citrus fits an office and the heat, while a sweet, resinous scent suits evenings and cooler weather. Many people end up with one favourite for most days and a couple more for specific moments. If that sounds like you, the small fragrance wardrobe guide shows how to build a rotation, and the eau de parfum, eau de toilette and parfum guide explains the strength labels in the table above.
How long should you wear a fragrance before deciding it suits you?
Give it at least two or three separate wears, not one afternoon. The first day tells you about the opening, and the repeat days tell you whether the dry-down is still pleasant and whether you reach for the decant when you are choosing what to wear.
Can you have more than one signature scent?
Yes. Many people wear one fragrance most days and another for evenings or for hot weather. The point of a signature scent is that you recognise it as yours, not that it is the only one you own.
Is it normal for a perfume to smell different after a few hours?
Yes. Fragrances develop as the lighter top notes evaporate and the heart and base come through, which is why a quick spray tells you little. It is also why Step 4 asks you to check after fifteen minutes, one hour and several hours.
How should you test a perfume before buying a full bottle?
Wear a small decant for several days in your own weather, on skin rather than paper. A 2 ml decant starts at ৳150 for Khamrah, so you can test before spending on a bigger size. What are unisex perfumes?
Unisex perfumes are fragrances not aimed at one gender. Lattafa Khamrah is listed as unisex, for example. Choose by accords and notes rather than the label on the box.
